The Chancellor has the Delegation of Authority to set Miscellaneous Student Fees and Deposits, Course Materials, Services Fees, and fees for Approved Certificate (SR-735) programs.  These fees and service charges, which are assessed for such purposes as: covering the cost of non-instructional services or materials; encouraging compliance with administrative rules; replacing or repairing equipment which is damaged by students beyond normal wear and tear; providing course-related materials, tools, and equipment to be consumed or retained by the student; recovering costs through rental charges for the student’s use of University-owned tools, musical instruments, or other equipment; covering the cost of other materials or services necessary to provide a special supplemental educational experience of direct benefit to the student; or covering the cost for special instructional programs mounted on a local or systemwide basis.

In 2020, per UCOP recommendation, the UCSF Chancellor implemented a requirement that annual fee levels for stand-alone Senate Regulation (SR)-735 certificate programs become part of the Miscellaneous Student Fee Advisory Committee purview, consistent with Presidential Delegation of Authority DA 2559, whereby Chancellors are authorized to establish and set fee levels for Miscellaneous Student Fees. October/November Annual Call to departments for proposed fee changes
January/February Fee Proposal Submission Deadline
February MSFAC convene to review fee proposals. Presentations from units requesting new fee and/or fee change
March/April MSFAC sends Fees Recommendation to Chancellor
April Chancellor's Approval of Fees to be charged for the following academic year.
April MSFAC notifies unit and the Office of the Registrar of the approved fees
